Monthly ideation

Scrape the creator, find the outliers, generate double what you need, then shortlist to 4 long-form titles and 30 short-form ideas.

To land on thirty good ones I need fifty to sixty, so I generate double and cut. It starts with data: I scraped her long form and her last five or six months of short form, bucketed every post and looked at what actually works. Then outliers from her niche and the ones next to it. The outlier is the brief. Eighty percent proven formats, twenty percent testing.

How do I use it?

  1. Scrape all of the creator’s long form and the last five to six months of short form, with every metric and a transcript per post.
  2. Summarise each post from its transcript and put it into a format bucket with that bucket’s median views.
  3. Search her niche and the adjacent niches for outliers and save the ones worth adapting into the monthly ideas tab.
  4. Write the core six to eight messages she repeats and check every idea carries one of them.
  5. Generate 6 to 8 long-form titles with talking points beneath each, and 50 to 60 short-form ideas.
  6. Blend repeatable serialised formats with one-offs, keeping roughly 80% proven and 20% experimental.
  7. Shortlist to 4 long-form titles and 30 short-form ideas, then generate more from the favourites and save which ones they were.
  8. Point every idea at the format it belongs in, the way The topic bank does for Tom’s own channel.
  9. Walk the creator through it on a call and leave her the numbers and personal details to fill in.

In his words

So, to be able to reach 30 concrete ideas, we definitely need 50 to 60 short-form ideas.
