Sufficiently oversubscribed thresholds

The signal-to-capacity ratios that tell you it is safe to release.

Daniel Priestley's framework, from Oversubscribed, pp. 153 to 153.

  1. Hot signals at 5 times capacity

Five times as many strongly signalled people as capacity, for example 25 deposits for five products.

  2. Warm signals at 10 times capacity

Ten times as many warm signals, for example 50 attendees at a free event for five client places.

  3. Cool signals at 100 times capacity

More than 100 soft signals per unit, for example 500 report downloads for five clients.

From chapter: SUFFICIENTLY OVERSUBSCRIBE YOUR CAPACITY, pp. 153–153

If your capacity is 100, being oversubscribed at 101 is not enough; you need several units of signalled interest per unit of capacity. As a rough guide, you are sufficiently oversubscribed with hot signalled interest at five times capacity, warm at ten times or cool at one hundred times. If you have not hit a target, continue to signal and run more events, products-for-prospects or downloads. Learn your own conversion, for instance one in six who ask for a price list buy, then run campaigns aimed at six times capacity price list requests. Market for signals first, not sales.
