The starting point

New Waves, Who Dis? was the UK YouTube production company Tom co-founded with Sam Hilton. TheBurntChip joined YouTube on 21 October 2012. Before 2022 his most watched uploads were football challenges and pranks, such as WROETOSHAW HAIR DYE PRANK, 3,731,437 views, from 2017. He co-founded The Fellas Studios with Calfreezy in 2020.

What Tom did

Tom’s role is filed as Produced, Format and strategy, and Talent supplied on every one of the 27 videos. He created the Come Dine With Me and Tuk Tuk formats for the channel. Tom’s lesson: “We took a fifteen-year-old Channel 4 format, pointed it at YouTubers, and it ran for years.”

How it was made

The work was built on repeatable series, each one a format the audience could come back to.

YouTuber Come Dine With Me. The Channel 4 dinner party show, played by YouTubers. Each host cooks, the others score them in secret, and the winner takes a £2,000 cash prize. Series one ran five episodes from 17 May 2022 to 14 October 2022, with Theo Baker and Calfreezy among the hosts. A Christmas special followed on 25 December 2022. A second run of five ran from 31 October 2023 to 14 September 2024, each episode named for its host: ChrisMD, ArthurTV, Theo Baker, Angry Ginge, then a finale. All 11 sit in the channel’s Come Dine With Me playlist. Together they have 21,836,751 views in Tom’s work.

The 24 Hour YouTuber Race. A team of YouTubers karting for 24 hours straight: a 24 hour go-kart race at Buckmore Park, with Chip’s karting team, Señor Frogs. Revolut sponsored Part 2. Part 3 followed on 24 August 2024. The three episodes are the channel’s three most watched videos, with 12,790,765 views between them. Part 1 went out on 2 June 2022, with Ethan Payne and Harry Lewis in the line up. Part 2 came back a year later, on 1 June 2023. The two parts have 8,478,344 views in Tom’s work.

Racing Across an Entire Country in a Tuk Tuk. A seven day race across Sri Lanka, in two parts. Part 1 went out on 24 October 2023. Part 2, an hour long, followed on 1 February 2024.

Travel and challenge one-offs. Living off £1 in the World’s Cheapest Country, Overnight in the World’s Deepest Hotel, 50 Hours in the World’s Most Futuristic City, and I Bought the World’s Most Expensive Airplane Ticket. Group challenges with other YouTubers: YouTuber Pub Golf, YouTuber Monopoly Pub Golf, and I Surprised YouTubers with 100 Presents.

Length. These are long videos for the channel. Come Dine With Me episodes run from 22:30 to 1:04:17.

The results

  • 27 videos and 52,004,088 views in Tom’s work, read 25 October 2026.
  • 8 of the channel’s top 12 videos.
  • Tom’s three most watched are the two 24 Hour YouTuber Race videos and Living off £1.
  • On YouTube on 25 October 2026, I Survived a 24 Hour YouTuber Race, Part 2, is the channel’s most watched long form video at 4,510,977.
  • Come Dine With Me ran across 11 episodes and three calendar years, 2022 to 2024.
  • 16 of the 27 videos passed 1,500,000 views in Tom’s work.

What it proves

When the format is right, it fills the top of the channel. A one-off video gives you one hit. A format keeps producing them. See Formats over ideas.

Borrowed structure plus a native audience usually beats a brand new idea. Come Dine With Me came from television and still ran to 11 episodes on YouTube. See Pitching a show format and Week one is an audit, and two formats are never up for testing.

  • The channel and the Come Dine With Me playlist are the public record.
  • No press coverage of these series was found.
