How do you tell a founder who will stick with it from one who will quit at month four?
They quit when there is an easier route to the same revenue
The founder with no cheaper path to their goal stays. The one who finds an easier route takes it. Ask before you start.

I have seen both. Sam Stoffel stuck with it. He understood how important it was to his business and his revenue. He was not chasing short term profit. He was building a product behind the scenes and building an audience to launch it to. That is the new way of marketing a product in 2026.
Another founder I worked with already had established revenue streams and was trying to do too much at once. Too many moving parts that were not working. When he found an easier way to hit the same revenue goals, he shifted the whole business.
So what is the advice?
Be really clear on why you are doing this. Trust that the team you are paying is trying its absolute best. It will not always work. There will be mistakes, and brand decisions you disagree with. That is all for discussion, working together towards the bigger outcome.
It is a qualification question. Ask it before the work starts, not at month nine.
