Macro and micro at the same time

I run at two altitudes at once. Macro: understanding every part of the business. Micro: working closely with the one direct report responsible for an issue, close enough to understand and fix how that thing actually works.

The goal is to make the team’s job as optimised as possible, through tools, processes, coaching and development. The team ends up empowered and self sufficient, and I am the coach. That frees me to look forward: planning, budgeting and growth.

How do you know it is working?

You can leave the micro alone. A leader stuck permanently at the micro has not built the self sufficiency the whole model depends on.
